'Can' is a very common and easy word that is used to ask for permission. However, in a situation where more politeness is required, we can use the following expressions both in written and oral communication and in formal and informal situations as well.

Here is a list of expressions to be used to ask for permission.....

·      Can I come in?

·      May I come in?

·      Shall I come in?

·      Can I please take this pen?

·      Will you allow me to leave early?

·      Will you please allow me to write now?

·      Am I permitted to leave early?

·      Can I get the permission to leave early?

·      Could I leave early?

·      Could I please open this?

·      Do you mind if I open the window?

·      Would you mind if I opened the window?

·      Would you mind my opening the window?

·      May I have your permission to take this?

·      Could you kindly allow me to leave early?

·      Is it alright if I read now?

·      Would it be alright if I take rest?

·      I wonder if I could take you out

·      I shall be obliged if I could be permitted to go.

·      I’d like to go with you. Can I?

·      I’d be gratified if you allow me to accompany you.

·      I’d be greatly pleased if you let me do this.

·      Will I be allowed to stay here?
